2009 Sustainable Living Symposium, Belleville, Ontario

On Saturday, March 28th, Douglas Barnes, president of EcoEdge Design Ltd. in Tweed, Ontario, will be giving a presentation entitled Designed Landscapes for Food, Fibre and Energy at the Fourth Annual Sustainable Living Symposium organized by Quinte Sustainability.

The presentation is scheduled from 2:30 to 3:45 pm. A short introduction to permaculture design will be given. This will be followed by examinations of water-harvesting and soil-building techniques applicable to the area, sustainable cropping for food, and coppicing and other techniques for fibre.

A direct student of permaculture founder Bill Mollison, Mr. Barnes has designed and implemented permaculture systems in Japan and Canada and has assisted in projects in Canada, Japan, India and Australia.
